Job Summary: We are seeking an MEP Project Coordinator , detail-oriented professional with 3-5 years of MEP drafting (plumbing focus) and field experience to review and coordinate shop drawings for building projects. You’ll ensure drawings are constructible, code-compliant, and cost-effective by identifying discrepancies, collaborating with contractors, and applying hands-on plumbing knowledge to bridge design and field operations. Your expertise will streamline the review process, reduce delays, and address material/standard differences. The ideal candidate combines technical proficiency in MEP systems, code familiarity, and strong communication skills to keep projects on track. Working Conditions: Work Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week. Responsibilities (What the day-to-day looks like): In this role, you will be responsible for: Conduct thorough reviews of plumbing drawings to ensure they meet design intent, constructability, and NYC code compliance. Identify clashes, errors, or inefficiencies that could impact cost, timeline, or installation. Act as the primary liaison between contractors’ drafters and plumbing team, ensuring drawings reflect real-world installation needs. Provide practical feedback based on field experience to improve drawing accuracy. Flag non-compliant or problematic elements in drawings and document clear revision requests for contractors. Track revisions until final approval, ensuring all stakeholders align on changes. Verify drawings comply with NYC Building Codes, IPC, NFPA, and project-specific requirements. Account for differences in materials and standards between NYC and Colombia (if applicable). Streamline review workflows to reduce delays and improve turnaround time. Develop checklists or templates to standardize quality control. Attend coordination meetings with architects, engineers, and contractors to resolve conflicts. Clearly communicate technical issues to both field teams and non-technical stakeholders. Advise on material selections or installation methods to prevent rework. Maintain organized records of approved drawings, revisions, and correspondence for audits. Ensure final drawings are properly archived for as-built documentation. Qualifications and Requirements (What we are looking for): Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, Civil Engineer, Plumbing Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred). Relevant certifications (e.g., NICET, OSHA 10/30, or NYC-specific MEP training) are a plus. Experience: 3-5 years of hands-on experience in MEP drafting and coordination, with a strong focus on plumbing systems. Field experience in plumbing installation, construction, or troubleshooting (NYC projects highly valued). Proven ability to interpret and critique architectural, mechanical, electrical, and sprinkler drawings. Familiarity with NYC Building Codes (e.g., Plumbing Code, Mechanical Code, NFPA standards) and understanding of international standards as needed. Technical Skills: Constructability Analysis: Ability to spot design flaws that could impact installation or cost. Coordination & Collaboration: Experience working with contractors, engineers, and architects to resolve conflicts. Detail-Oriented Review: Keen eye for discrepancies in dimensions, materials, or compliance. Problem-Solving: Quickly propose practical solutions for drawing revisions or field adjustments. Time Management: Juggle multiple projects and deadlines without sacrificing accuracy. Soft Skills: Exceptional attention to detail to capture small architectural elements, maintain precision, and ensure accuracy in documentation. Strong organizational skills with excellent analytical abilities to manage multiple tasks and complex regulatory processes. Software Proficiency Required: CAD & Drafting Software : For reviewing, annotating, and coordinating MEP shop drawings. AutoCAD : Core competency for 2D drawing review, markup, and basic edits. AutoCAD MEP : Preferred for plumbing systems (pipe routing, fittings, clash detection). Revit MEP : For 3D model coordination, BIM workflows, and system interference checks. Clash Detection & BIM Coordination: To identify and resolve conflicts between MEP systems pre-construction. Navisworks Manage : Essential for clash detection, 4D scheduling, and multi-trade coordination. BIM 360/Acc : Cloud-based collaboration for real-time drawing updates and issue tracking. Plumbing-Specific Design Tools: For specialized plumbing system design and analysis. HydraCAD : AutoSprinkler/HydraCALC for sprinkler system design and hydraulic calculations. Pipe-Flo : Fluid flow analysis for plumbing/piping systems (NYC high-rise projects). Project Management & Documentation: To streamline workflows and track revisions. Bluebeam Revu : PDF markup, measurement tools, and drawing comparison (industry standard for reviews). Procore : For document control, RFIs, and submittal tracking (if used by contractors).
