About the Role We’re seeking a skilled Engineering Manager to oversee cross-functional squads (Back-End, Front-End & QA) from our Bogotá office (Zona Chicó) on a hybrid schedule. Responsibilities Define quarterly OKRs for the engineering team and monitor progress against scope, quality, and SLAs. Manage engineers (mid and senior), conduct 1:1s, develop growth plans, provide feedback, and facilitate promotions or exits. Participate in hiring, conduct structured interviews, and onboard new team members. Review high-risk designs and PRs, uphold architecture principles, and promote sustainable technical debt management. Lead agile ceremonies, unblock teams, monitor sprint health, and communicate risks early to stakeholders. Enforce testing, observability (OpenTelemetry + Datadog), and quality standards (SOC-2); lead incident post-mortems to improve MTTR. Collaborate with Product and Design to plan roadmaps, balance feature development with platform work, and provide concise, data-backed updates. Demonstrate Zoe’s core values like ownership and bias-for-action, fostering a culture of learning and growth. Qualifications At least 3 years as an Engineering Manager or Tech Lead managing full-stack squads in high-growth startups or scale-ups. 8-10 years experience building production backend systems with Laravel/PHP and MySQL; AWS experience is a plus. Ability to make trade-offs between monolith vs. microservices, synchronous vs. async, SQL vs. NoSQL, and manage migrations without disrupting business. Proficiency in modern agile/Lean practices, CI/CD, trunk-based development, and metrics-driven improvement. Experience implementing test strategies (unit, e2e), code quality gates, and security best practices (OWASP, secrets management). Skill in translating technical complexity into business language, negotiating scope, and inspiring engineering teams. Networking and storytelling skills to attract top-tier candidates; experience scaling teams from fewer than 10 to 20-30 engineers is advantageous.
