About The Role Job Summary: We are seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Health & Safety Specialist to lead workplace safety and compliance for our shared services startup operation in Colombia. This role will ensure the organization aligns with national occupational health and safety (OHS) standards while building a safe, risk-aware culture from the ground up. As the key liaison between internal teams, contractors, and regulatory bodies, you will design, implement, and monitor health and safety initiatives using SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound) performance metrics. Key Responsibilities: 1. Compliance & Regulatory Alignment Ensure full compliance with Colombia’s occupational safety laws and standards, including those set by the Ministerio de Trabajo, ARL, and other applicable authorities. 2. Program Development & Implementation Develop and implement workplace health and safety programs tailored to the needs of a growing startup in a shared services model. Create safety manuals, emergency response plans, risk assessments, and ergonomic guidelines specific to office-based operations. Define and monitor SMART goals such as: Specific: Reduce workplace incidents by 25% in 12 months. Measurable: Track incident frequency rate (IFR) and risk mitigation timelines. Achievable: Conduct 100% of mandatory safety training for all employees within 3 months of hire. Relevant: Align H&S initiatives with business continuity and employee wellness strategies. Time-bound: Conduct quarterly safety audits and submit compliance reports within 30 days. - Lead, Maintain and execute the full scope for H&S duties and system, to be compliant but also coordinating with third parties to achieve it (ARL, Broker) (100% on ARL diagnose) - Reports and be aligned with headquarters about compliance, and execution over H&S system - Conduct H&S audits and manage legal documentation (HR Compliance Audit Score: ≥95%). 4. Training & Engagement Design and lead health and safety training sessions, drills, and workshops to improve awareness and preparedness. Foster a proactive safety culture by engaging employees and managers in preventive actions and risk identification. 5. Auditing & Reporting Conduct internal audits and workplace inspections; identify non-conformities and recommend corrective actions. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on HSE performance and present findings to senior leadership and external auditors when required. Lead investigations for accidents or near-misses, ensuring root cause analysis and implementation of preventive measures. Serve as point of contact for emergency response coordination. Work closely with HR, Facilities, Legal, and IT departments to embed health and safety protocols in all operations. Coordinate with local vendors, contractors, and regulators to align on safe practices and compliance. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field. Certifications: Valid professional certification in Occupational Health & Safety in Colombia (e.g., COPASST membership, SENA certifications). Experience: 3–5 years in a health & safety role, ideally within a shared services or startup environment. Proven experience implementing SG-SST or equivalent safety management systems. Language Skills: Bilingual – Spanish (native) and English (intermediate to advanced) for effective reporting and global coordination. In-depth knowledge of Colombian health & safety legislation Strong organizational and documentation skills Analytical mindset with focus on performance tracking (using SMART goals) Excellent communication and training capabilities Cultural adaptability and a startup-oriented mindset What We Offer A forward-thinking and inclusive company culture that fosters transparency and collaboration.
