This position is located in the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia (UNVMC), in the Geospatial Information Services (GIS) team within the Field Technology Services Unit (FTS), in Bogota. The incumbent will report to the Assistant Information Systems Officer or his/her designated officer and secondly to the Chief of Field Technology Services (FTS). The Geospatial Information Services team provides cartography, geo-visualization, geodata management, earth observation and intelligence, geo-webservices and mobile solutions to the Mission. **Responsibilities**: Within limits of delegated authority, the Geospatial Information Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: - Assists with process improvement mechanisms. - Assists in maintaining geospatial databases, with data collection efforts, creates statistics. - Assists with the identification of patterns in geospatial data using standard techniques. - Assists with the preparation of geospatial data sets and responds to queries. - Assists with maintenance and updating of web pages. - Assists with maintaining an inventory of organizational needs and requirements, and assists with reports and communication - Assists with geospatial data acquisition and geospatial data cleansing. - Helps to establish the means to monitor that all UNVMC policies are applied and followed thoroughly across all processes, including adherence to UNVMC code of conduct and ethics, and integrates a gender-sensitive approach in all functions. - Performs other duties as required by the supervisor. Job - Specific Qualification Technical qualification in Geospatial Sciences (Cartography, Geography, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and/or equivalent), which involves geospatial information and image processing programmes is desirable. Work Experience A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the field of geospatial information, analysis, mapping, data visualization, information management or related area is required. Experience working with Geospatial Information Services (GIS) systems such as ArcGIS is desirable. Experience in visualization, information management, information technology or related area is desirable. Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
