Job Title: Project Development Director Reports To: Head of Carbon Location: Preferably based in Barcelona or Paris. Exceptional remote candidates may be considered if strongly aligned with project objectives. Job Summary The Project Development Director will lead the full lifecycle development of Improved Agricultural Land Management (IALM) projects under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and Climate, Community & Biodiversity (CCB) standards, within the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM). This role involves managing projects from feasibility through to carbon credit issuance and monitoring periods. Responsibilities include overseeing project phases—scoping, feasibility, documentation, validation, verification, and compliance with methodologies. The Director will coordinate across data science, agronomy, monitoring, farmer engagement, business development, and marketing teams, while engaging with external validation/verification bodies, consultants, and stakeholders. Success requires strategic foresight, process leadership, and up-to-date knowledge of carbon market regulations and methodologies. Key Responsibilities - Lead day-to-day development of IALM carbon projects ensuring compliance with standards. - Manage project timelines, milestones, and KPIs; adapt roadmaps as needed. - Coordinate cross-functional teams and facilitate internal check-ins and stakeholder meetings. - Oversee preparation of project documentation: Project Descriptions, Monitoring Reports, and supporting materials. - Ensure adherence to VCS and CCB standards and maintain audit-ready records. - Act as main contact for external partners, consultants, and registries. - Communicate project updates to internal and external stakeholders. - Collaborate on data review, remote sensing insights, and ensure data quality. - Monitor market trends, methodologies, and identify opportunities for project optimization. - Support onboarding and internal process improvements. - Maintain knowledge of AFOLU, carbon markets, and best practices. Candidate Profile - Proven experience managing 3–5+ land-based carbon projects under VCS. - Expertise in AFOLU project development, especially in agriculture and soil carbon. - Familiarity with carbon accounting and methodologies. - Degree in Environmental Science, Agronomy, Sustainability, Engineering, Business, or related field. - Knowledge of GHG accounting, remote sensing, and project management tools. - Demonstrated ability to lead multi-stakeholder projects. - Strong communication, leadership, and solutions-oriented mindset.
