The Field Service Tech performs all trouble shooting and customer training on new and existing machines to customers’ satisfaction. Puts new machines into service, which includes testing and demonstration of the new equipment at the customer’s site. Repairs existing equipment at the customers site. Trouble shoots the machines and perform the necessary service, maintenance, and repairs to restore the equipment to proper operation. **Responsibilities**: - 80+% travel to Canadian and foreign customers’ locations for machine start up, troubleshooting and repair along with customer training. - Recommends repair parts and product improvements to customers. - Advises and trains customers on proper maintenance and operation of Nordco equipment. - Prepares weekly travel expense records and field reports as required. - Works with engineering and/or production to solve problems with new machines. - Makes positive contributions towards the continuous improvement of our equipment and processes. - Ability to work independently and achieve effective rapport with customers. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Education - High School diploma or equivalent along with a minimum of 5 years of experience as an industrial or mobile heavy equipment mechanic. - Associates Degree a plus - PLC and/or CanBus systems troubleshooting training strongly preferred Experience - General mechanical experience, extensive knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical systems including the ability to read schematics - Previous railroad experience a plus Technical Skills - Ability to troubleshoot and solve equipment problems. - Requires mechanical aptitude - Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. - Ability to solve practical problems and deal with variables in different situations. - Ability to read and interpret business documents, technical procedures, governmental regulations and professional journals. - Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Behavioral Attributes - Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, suppliers and the public. - Ability to successfully work in an environment with diverse personalities and build strong customer relationships. Other Requirements - Must have a Valid Drivers License - French speaking preferred Travel - 70 - 80% travel or foreign and domestic locations - Valid Drivers License and Passport Required - Working Conditions - While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment can be loud at times. Temperatures can range from extreme cold to extreme heat. Travel to remote job sites is required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, climb, walk unassisted, sit and reach with hands and arms.
