Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities) **Main purpose of job**: The Department for International Trade (DIT) is responsible for promoting UK trade and investment with the rest of the world. Colombia is a high potential market for the UK. Working with the British Embassy in Colombia, DIT regional and UK colleagues, as well as their private and public sectors, the successful applicant will contribute to UK economic growth and jobs across one or more sectors. This will be done, principally, by supporting UK investment into the UK. We are looking for a bright, proactive and motivated Business Development Manager to join our team. In this role, you will support the Investment Team by working alongside Colombian companies, organisations and associations to deliver an increase in their awareness of the UK as an investment destination and to drive new foreign direct investment from these countries into the UK. You will work across a virtual team (with policy, programme and commercial colleagues) to deliver investment objectives as part of a cross-Embassy and cross-country strategy. Moreover, you will support the team in delivering an impactful programme of activities focused on developing a robust pipeline of local investors and promoting the UK as a destination for Colombian companies. **Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?**: - Support the Inward Investment agenda in Colombia- Support the Head of Investment with activities related to promoting FDI from Colombia into the UK. - Support the senior management team (regular information sharing and reports as requested by HMA, Country Director, HQ Global operations, ministerial visits, etc). - Prospect Colombian companies to internationalise to the UK. - Support and follow up with companies already in the pipeline to set up their operations in the UK. - Deliver market research & lead generation for the Colombian market. - Update our client relationship management system (CRM) on a daily basis. - Issue reports and researches as requested related to investments or pipeline in the UK. - Represent the investment team in events. - Support or lead missions and events with companies from Colombia and Latin America - into the UK. - Travel to support clients internationalizing, prospect new companies to invest in the UK and attend events on behalf of the Department for International Trade. - Collaborate with other teams in Latin America to deliver investments in the UK. - Actively engage and independently act as HMG’s representative to build relationships with a wide range of VC and CVC investors across the region, establishing productive working partnerships with them to promote UK VC investment. - Provide administrative support to the local and regional team in missions, Ministerial visits and other events Lead regional and strategic sector efforts and be a proactive part of the LATAC FDI team - Provide strategic leadership for the sector ensuring alignment with country and regional (Latin America and the Caribbean) strategies, with a focus on quality and delivery of outcomes across the region. - Coordinate activity across the country teams working in the selected sector across the region to deliver market intelligence, promotion and awareness, and attract investments to the sector in UK. - Develop relationships with key stakeholders in DIT HQ and relevant UK and regional sectoral business organisations. - Contribute to the regional LATAC FDI team in promoting the FDI agenda in the region, participating and leading regional activities and initiatives, sharing best practices and supporting the regional team as needed. **Resources managed (staff and expenditure)**: Managing more junior staff as required; and regional and/or local budget to fund activities - events and business development Essential qualifications, skills and experience **Essential on arrival**: - Evidence of excellent written and oral communication (English and Spanish). - Strong track record of interpersonal and relationship building, ideally with senior businessmen. - A strong interest in the investment and business space. - Three or more years relevant professional experience. - Experience in project management, client support, budget control and commercial activities. - Strong organisational and time management - First hand experience working at investment agency/department/ or similar Must have the legal status to work and live in Colombia. Desirable qualifications, skills and experience **Desirable**: - Previous experience in investment is a plus - Knowledge in technology, financial services, creative industries or life sciences. - Experience working with international business. - Experience of both the UK and local business environments and cultures. - Understanding of geopolitics in Latin America - Evidence of delivering positive results through collaboration and networks. - Good judgement, ability to take initiative and prioritise effectively
