This position is located in the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia. Under the overall supervision of the Chief Security Adviser/ Officer (CSA/CSO), the Security Investigations Officer at the FS6 level will report to the Deputy Security Officer/ Security Coordination Officer (DCSO). **Responsibilities**: Within the limits of delegated authority, the Security Investigation Officer will perform the following duties: - Undertakes either personally or jointly with other investigators, investigation tasks and inquiries into violation of security matters, illegal, activities accidents/incident, complaints and allegations of misconduct, discipline in which members of field operations civilian staff/CIVPOLs/MILOBs may be involved or implicated and prepares reports to the Deputy Chief Security Officer. - Assesses the nature of reported complaints, establishes the ingredients of the relevant offences, proofs required and prepares comprehensive written investigation reports in a timely manner consistent to such reported complaints; - Visits the scene of incidents/accidents and examines clues that would assist in the investigations process; in the performance of the above-mentioned duties maintains liaison, as required, with local police and other national authorities or other agents in the field operation area who would make investigations tasks bear good results. - Performs random checks on field operations vehicles as a deterrent measure for abuses; maintaining and updating the office investigations database and other office records for ease of reference as necessary. - Functions as the Standby Investigations Duty Officer when placed on periodic roster to do so, conducting Security Surveys for office premises and facilities and prepare comprehensive security information that produce background papers relating to the security threats and safety of mission staff members and property. - Perform any other assignment as required and detailed by the Deputy Chief Security Officer. Job - Specific Qualification Certificate(s) in security, other governmental, international agencies, organizations, private enterprise investigative firms and/or are desirable. Training(s) in military or police procedures and practices is required. Work Experience Experience with UN system policies, rules and regulations and procedures is desirable. Experience in professional investigation work with three (3) years of experience in investigation management is desirable. Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English and Spanish (both oral and written) is required.
