Role overview As a Network Engineer at Ilkari, you will be part of the team responsible for deploying, supporting, and maintaining our network infrastructure. This is a hands-on position based at our data centre in Tocancipá, Colombia. You'll work closely with experienced engineers to ensure our systems remain secure, reliable, and high-performing. It's an excellent opportunity to deepen your networking knowledge while supporting key infrastructure projects. What you'll do Deploy, configure, and maintain network infrastructure, including switches, firewalls, access points, and routers. Monitor network health and proactively troubleshoot issues such as latency, packet loss, routing problems, and VPN connectivity. Maintain and update network documentation, including device configs, IP allocations, and network diagrams. Participate in the planning and execution of network changes, upgrades, and migrations. Manage VLANs, routing tables, ACLs, NAT rules, and firewall policies (primarily with Palo Alto Networks). Support day-to-day operations, including end-user connectivity issues and network incidents. Assist in automating network tasks using tools like Ansible and Python. Implement and follow operational procedures and security standards. Collaborate with peers across engineering and infrastructure to deliver resilient and scalable solutions. Participate in on-call rotation and contribute to incident response activities when needed. What are we looking for 3-5 years of hands-on experience in network engineering or infrastructure operations. Entry to mid-level certifications (e.g. CCNA, PCNSA, CompTIA Network+). Solid knowledge of network protocols and technologies: TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPNs, subnetting. Experience with Palo Alto firewalls, including Panorama and GlobalProtect. Familiarity with Unifi or other enterprise Wi-Fi solutions. Working knowledge of cloud networking. Comfortable with physical network setups, structured cabling, and racking equipment. Proficiency with network tools such as Wireshark, traceroute, and NMAP. Proficiency with automation/scripting in Python, Terraform, or Ansible. Familiarity with monitoring platforms (e.g. Datadog, Prometheus, or similar). Very good problem-solving skills, open mind towards suggestions, can-do attitude, and agile mindset. Self-motivated and self-managing, with excellent organisational skills. Clear communication, documentation, and cross-team collaboration skills.
