This position is located in the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia, in the Office of the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General (ODSRSG), duty station Bogota. The Senior Liaison Officer will report to the DSRSG. **Responsibilities**: Working under the overall direction of Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, the Senior Liaison Officer on will be responsible for performing the following duties: - Leads the Field Coordination Unit and oversees and coordinates all field operations and teams through the provision of operational support to ensure effective functioning of regional, sub-regional and local teams. - Oversees the management, allocation and execution of human, financial and logistics resources of regional and subregional offices, including issues related to staff security and welfare, in coordination with relevant units. - Provides operational, administrative and logístical coordination support to the field offices and facilitates, through the relevant desks, liaison and interaction between HQ and field offices, as well as among regional teams - Liaises with field offices to convey policies and priorities from HQ to the field and received feedback from the field on the implementation of those policies. - Coordinates with the Human Resources Unit (HRU) to establish and implement the recruitment processes for international and national staff, UN Volunteers and International Observers. - Liaises with the Mission Support Division on all aspects relevant to field operations and human resources. - Monitors daily reports from the field and raises relevant issues with the appropriate units at Headquarters and in New York. - Liaises with the Offices of the SRSG, the Chief of Staff, the Verification Teams and the Legal Unit to convey concerns, queries and substantive comments received from the field offices. - Collaborates with the training unit in the identification of training opportunities for field office team personnel, including to support the training unit in the selection of trainees. Makes tough decisions when necessary. Education Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in political science, international relations, social affairs, law, or other related field. A first level university degree with a combination of relevant academic qualifications and professional experience in the fields of diplomacy, political affairs, international relations or humanitarian affairs may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Work Experience A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in the fields of diplomacy, political affairs, international relations, humanitarian affairs or related area at the national and/or international levels is required. Field experience and knowledge of UN peacekeeping operations is desirable. Experience in Latin America is highly desirable. Experience working in politically sensitive environments as well as working with civilian, police, and military counterparts is highly desirable. Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written English and Spanish is required.
