General Summary of Position MedStar Health is seeking a Senior Director of Acute Case Management Operations & Care Coordination . This operations leader is responsible for driving system-wide standardization of acute case management practices, enhancing revenue cycle performance, length of stay, and ensuring a consistent, aligned approach to patient care, discharge planning, care coordination, and utilization review across all hospitals within the health system. The role requires a dynamic leader experienced in large-scale healthcare operations, organizational change, and strategic execution. Responsibilities include departmental operations such as budget development, financial tracking, contract management, system oversight for emerging technologies, resource allocation, and aligning with system-wide goals. The leader collaborates with physicians, case management, hospital leadership, finance, compliance, population health, and other stakeholders to ensure efficient, quality care and effective discharge planning and utilization review. Note: This role is hybrid . The leader will have schedule flexibility but may need to be onsite at various MedStar locations to support teams. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Serve as the operational partner to the Vice President, Acute Case Management, supporting strategic initiatives and system-wide transformation. Oversee and strategize the development and optimization of the Acute Case Management Service line, workflows, and performance metrics. Coordinate system-wide projects, managing timelines, resources, and stakeholder communication. Manage change initiatives, including HR functions, competency assessments, and restructuring efforts. Identify and address operational inefficiencies to support revenue cycle improvements across hospitals. Supervise contracts and vendors related to acute case management and utilization review, ensuring compliance and performance standards. Collaborate with system ACM leaders and stakeholders to implement LOS and discharge management initiatives and best practices. Determine and lead the implementation of best practice workflows to maximize efficiency. Manage system cost centers and departmental operations, including budget and resource planning, aligned with fiscal accountability. Work with HR, finance, IT, and clinical leaders to support organizational goals and operational readiness. Supervise staff, fostering a high-performance culture through clear expectations, feedback, and accountability. Lead initiatives for continuous improvement in case management practices and patient outcomes. Minimum Qualifications Education: Master's degree in healthcare administration, nursing, business, or a related field. Experience: 8-10 years of progressive leadership in large-scale healthcare operations, preferably in acute case management, with expertise in organizational change, project coordination, and strategic operations. Licenses and Certifications: RN licensure in Maryland or District of Columbia upon hire. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills; financial acumen; stakeholder engagement; ability to navigate ambiguity and implement sustainable improvements.
