United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is the leading UN entity on human rights. Their mission is to promote and protect the full range of human rights and freedoms set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. About OHCHR-Colombia The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Colombia was established in 1996 to support the promotion and protection of human rights in the country. Since the signing of the 2016 Peace Agreement between the Colombian government and FARC-EP, OHCHR's role has expanded to include monitoring policies on dismantling criminal groups, protecting human rights defenders, ensuring security for former FARC members transitioning to politics, reviewing detained FARC members' cases, and supporting victims' search for justice and reparations. Key Responsibilities - Facilitate the implementation of human rights mandates within the designated area of responsibility. - Support fact-finding missions, including report drafting and follow-up. - Identify key contacts in government, civil society, UN agencies, and other partners on ethnic, indigenous, and gender issues at national and regional levels. - Support the analysis, implementation, reporting, and monitoring of activities related to ethnic, indigenous people, and gender. - Support human rights capacity-building, training programmes, and the implementation of OHCHR-Colombia's strategy on ethnic and indigenous rights with a gender perspective. About the Position This position is part of the Talent programme 'Swiss Youth at the United Nations / World Bank Group', sponsored by the Peace and Human Rights Division (PHRD). An International UN Youth Volunteer contract ensures that travel, relocation, and UN health insurance costs are covered. Additionally, a monthly living allowance is paid. Requirements - Swiss nationality. - Master's degree. - Ideally 12 months of relevant professional experience (min. 3 months - max. 24 months). - Max. 28 years old at the date of application. - Excellent command of English and 2 official Swiss languages (one active = C1/C2, one passive = A2/B1). - Proven interest in joining the international cooperation sector. - Driving license for PHRD financed positions. Education and Qualifications - Master's degree in law, political science or international relations, preferably with a specialization in human rights and/or international humanitarian law. - Demonstrated interest and/or experience (ideally one year) in human rights, ethnic and indigenous people's rights. - Good knowledge of institutional mandates, policies, and guidelines related to human rights. - Good knowledge of and exposure to a range of human rights issues to include approaches and techniques to address sensitive problems. - Capacity of research, analysis, discussion, and drafting. - Fluent in English and Spanish.
