ABOUT THE POSITION Watch this video to learn more about our passion and purpose: We are seeking a Remote Removal Immigration Legal Assistant (Contractor) to support our dynamic Removal Defense Department. This role involves managing a caseload of active removal proceedings and working closely with attorneys and paralegals to provide administrative and legal support. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, dependable, and thrives in a fast-paced, remote work environment. Contractors must demonstrate excellent writing and communication skills, strong time management, and the ability to handle confidential matters with integrity and discretion. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES - Support immigration legal assistants and attorneys in preparing and submitting USCIS and Removal Defense applications, including: - Cancellation of Removal - Defensive Asylum - Adjustment of Status before Court - Withholding of Removal - DS-260s - SJIS Applications - G-28 filings - Familiarity with Immigration Court procedures, including: - Recalendaring court hearings - Filing Motions to Recalendar and Motions to Reopen - EOIR court calendaring and court hearing scheduling - Tracking and managing Master and Individual Hearings - Supporting filings with the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) and 9th Circuit Court of Appeals - Conduct client interviews (HSIs) to evaluate hardship - Draft and review client declarations and supporting documents - Organize and analyze evidence for hardship waivers - Translate and transcribe vital records and client statements - Conduct legal research related to immigration law and removal defense - Ensure timely calendaring of hearings, motions, and legal deadlines ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES - Schedule appointments, manage emails, and assess client needs - Manage outbound calls and emails, forwarding inquiries to the appropriate legal team member - Provide administrative support to multiple legal departments - Coordinate virtual administrative tasks such as: - Digital materials preparation - Remote file organization - Collaborative legal support CLIENT COMMUNICATION & SOP SUPPORT - Maintain consistent client communication via email, text, and phone - Offer accurate guidance to clients regarding Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and internal policies - Assist in version control and document organization for shared files and collaborative projects QUALIFICATIONS - Fluency in both English and Spanish (verbal and written) - Bachelor’s degree preferred - 2+ years of recent work experience in immigration law, customer service, or administrative roles - Excellent writing, proofreading, and organizational skills - High level of professionalism and discretion - Experience using Google Docs,Sheets, Google Drive, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and similar tools - Ability to respond to team requests within one hour during business hours (9 AM – 5:30 PM PST) - Comfortable with fast-paced work and minimal supervision - Team player with strong work ethic and positive attitude Technical & Security Requirements - Reliable laptop/desktop with updated operational system and webcam. - Stable high-speed internet and consistent electricity. - Antivirus/malware protection installed. - Private, distraction-free home office setup. - Willingness to install work monitoring software (during work hours only) to ensure data protection and compliance.
