Job Summary A Level 1 Underwriter is responsible for analyzing and assessing the creditworthiness of loan applications, ensuring compliance with program criteria, and making informed recommendations for loan approval or denial for all PACE loans. Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Underwrite files, clear conditions, and send out Finance Agreements to help complete a decision on a file. - Prepare approval and commitment letters listing all conditions that must be met prior to project funding, including review of acceptable projects. - Prepare financing documents and coordinate accurate execution with property owners, contractors, and signing agents. - Review projects and confirm completion with appropriate permits, inspections, and lien releases, as applicable. - Support documentation requirements for final financing agreements and comply with district/county requirements to finalize the project and financing. - Ensure accurate and thorough credit risk analysis and proper documentation for all applicants and projects submitted for tax financing. - Manage pipeline by coordinating with property owners, processors, project managers, Regional Account Managers (RAMs), contractors, and district/county representatives to ensure timely project approvals. - Respond promptly to all project- and program-related messages from other departments. - Act as a resource to troubleshoot project-related issues across departments. - Coordinate with the final funding department to prepare files and transactions for orderly completion. - Conduct follow-up phone calls to property owners, contractors, and/or account managers to obtain information, provide updates, or explain conditions requested. - Conduct phone calls to city departments, tax collectors, and counties to obtain property information related to liens, taxes, and other requirements to expedite approvals. - Perform special projects and research as assigned. - Perform other duties as assigned. Required Skills and Qualifications - High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience. - Minimum of 3 years of experience in underwriting, processing, funding, and/or escrow. - Knowledge of underwriting standards, practices, and policies. - Knowledge of PACE financing requirements (preferred). - Experience reviewing credit reports. - Familiarity with title documents, trust agreements, mortgage deeds/notes, closing disclosures, divorce decrees, operating agreements, and bylaws (preferred). - Ability to review and assess income documentation, including but not limited to: ○ Pay stubs ○ Tax returns ○ Award letters (SSI, Disability, Veterans, Pensions) ○ W-2s ○ Rental income/leases ○ Bank account deposits and statements (preferred) - Excellent telephone manners and communication techniques. - Strong communication skills and analytical capacity. - Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. - Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. - Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF conversions, and DocuSign. - High attention to detail and strong organizational skills. - Ability to speak, read, and write in Spanish.
