Title and Summary Senior Data Engineer Overview: Mastercard’s Marketing Technology Solutions team is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design, develop, and maintain data and analytics solutions supporting Mastercard's B2B marketing initiatives. This role is crucial in building the data environment and integrations that will power advanced omnichannel marketing campaigns. As part of a small, collaborative team, you will work with large-scale datasets to unlock the value of big data for the global marketing team. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer with a strong background in data engineering, a passion for building scalable solutions, and a commitment to driving business impact. Responsibilities: Drive the evolution of data-driven marketing at Mastercard with a focus on data engineering and data science, ensuring improvements in data quality, scalability, and efficiency. Develop and optimize methods and algorithms to generate high-quality data at scale, including creating and maintaining feature stores, analytical stores, and curated datasets to enhance data integrity and usability. Solve complex data challenges involving multi-layered datasets through the development of data pipelines, libraries, and frameworks. Support deployed data applications and analytical models, identifying data issues and guiding resolutions. Implement data governance policies by ensuring data lineage, quality checks, and classification. Integrate diverse data sources—including real-time, streaming, batch, and API-based data—to enrich insights and support data-informed decisions. Experiment with new tools to improve development, testing, deployment, and operation of data pipelines. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify challenges and develop innovative solutions. Establish and enforce best practices for data engineering, including coding standards, reviews, and documentation. Ensure data security and privacy by implementing appropriate protection measures for sensitive data. Qualifications: Extensive hands-on experience in data engineering, particularly with Databricks as a primary environment. Proven track record of delivering scalable, production-ready data warehouse projects in Big Data ecosystems. Proficiency in Python, Java, and Scala, with a background in backend software engineering. Experience with orchestration tools like Apache NiFi, Apache Airflow, or similar. Expertise in performance tuning for databases, SQL queries, ETL processes, and scripts. Experience working in Agile environments and iterative development. Hands-on experience with developing and deploying data-driven or machine learning applications at scale. Skill in developing cloud applications with Databricks, Azure, AWS, or GCP. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with a collaborative approach.
