This position is located in the Regional Office for the Andean Region and the Southern Cone (ROCOL), Division for Operations (DO), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), duty station in Bogota, Colombia. The incumbent will work under the overall guidance of the UNODC Regional Representative and direct supervision of the Senior Programme Officer. **Responsibilities**: Within assigned authority, the Assistant Public Information Officer will be responsible for assisting in managing the communications strategy in ROCOL by providing support in promoting and publicizing the work of UNODC from a comprehensive and collaborative approach with stakeholders, media, donors, beneficiaries, and internal audiences. The incumbent will contribute to the reputation and credibility of the Organization and will be responsible for the following specific duties: - Update, implement and evaluate the Communications’ work programme. - Assist in supporting the branding efforts in line with the Global Communications Strategy of the United Nations, the Advocacy Plan of the UN Country Team (UNCT) and the Communications Strategy of UNODC HQ. - Assist in providing substantive guidance, training, and supervision of the media encounters and to external content that may have an impact on UNODC’s trust and liability. - Provide support in designing, implementing, and monitoring communications activities in the framework of cooperation agreements, programmes, and technical projects. - Advise on communications issues, concerns, reputational risks, and trust crisis by serving as press manager for the Representative, the Senior Programme Officer and senior leaders with a spokesperson delegation. - In collaboration with the programmatic areas and the operational units, and in coordination with the Representative´s Office, contribute to the data management and results reporting for internal and external purposes. - Provide support in guiding and supervising the development of communications products on diverse platforms and for different audiences (multimedia, print and digital, social media products, websites and portals, videos, photos, infographics, POP, press releases, op-eds, e-cards and e-vites, mass mailing, ad copies, among others). - Conduct and arrange press conferences, briefings, interviews, field trips with media, technical events, presentations/launches, conferences, and outreach activities. - Comply with the information security protocols, UN guidelines for social media and up-to-date web practices. - Interact and collaborate with the Advocacy Section at UNODC HQ to produce integrated campaigns for international days and other special dates/occasions in English and Spanish. - Provide assistance in developing cohesive and effective campaigns and incorporate key message and themes into all relevant events and products. - Analyze current events and press coverage, identifying issues and trends and advising on appropriate action/responses. - Identify and take advantage of advocacy opportunities to publicize the work of UNODC at the local and regional level, to cultivate strong relationships with partners, donors, and beneficiaries, and to engage in public speaking with media and opinion leaders. - Provide assistance in developing innovative approaches and keep pace with emerging communications tools to obtain the best outreach and effectiveness of the advocacy efforts. - Provide support in initiating and sustaining proactive professional relationships with key constituencies, including private sector, and assist in undertaking joint strategic plans with them to improve public engagement and participatory approaches. - Provide support to internal communications by drafting and disseminating reports, newsletters, and other materials of interest to internal audiences. - Coordinate the work of the communications team and liaise with other advocacy offices from counterparts and the UN System in Colombia. - Act as Certifying Officer for all requisitions related to the operation of ROCOL. - Support the Representative´s Office in the day-to-day running of advocacy and communications requests and perform other work-related functions and special duties as requested by the Representative or the Senior Programme Officer.
