Staff Data Scientist (Full-Time Contractor) Remote - Colombia About the role: Nerdy is seeking a Staff Data Scientist based in South America, with expertise in data science and machine learning, particularly in applying generative AI and LLMs. This role involves partnering with product and engineering teams to discover insights and develop algorithmic solutions that personalize live learning experiences at scale. The ideal candidate will work independently, managing complex problems from ambiguity to production, contributing to features like LLM-driven summarization, real-time ranking, and churn prediction models. Key Responsibilities: Develop and lead end-to-end data science projects, from problem definition to model deployment. Apply generative AI and LLM technologies to real-world learning challenges like summarization and personalization. Establish evaluation strategies to ensure model performance over time. Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to prototype and productionize ML solutions for personalized learning at scale. Create offline and online evaluation methods for ongoing impact assessment. Guide data strategy, model evaluation, and experimental design for long-term robustness. Mentor peers, share insights, and promote technical excellence within the team. Uphold Nerdy's commitment to unity and focus on helping people learn. Qualifications: 8+ years of professional experience in data science, with a record of deploying production ML systems. Deep expertise in statistical inference, probability, and machine learning (unsupervised and supervised). Proven ability to independently deploy impactful, operational customer-facing models. Proficiency in Python and SQL, with experience using ML libraries and frameworks. Experience with recommender systems and matching algorithms is a plus. Knowledge of LLMs, generative AI, MCP, agents, and NLP alongside classical ML models. Curiosity and customer-centric problem-solving focus. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
