OverviewColliers Engineering & Design is hiring an Instrument Person to join our Survey/Geospatial team in Columbia, MD.Be part of a team that uses the latest technology to collect data from air, ground, and subsurface sources more quickly, safely, and accurately. You'll work with advanced equipment, support impactful projects, and develop your skills in a dynamic environment.ResponsibilitiesAssist in fieldwork under the supervision of a crew chief.Operate data collection equipment and input data accurately.Read and interpret plans and specifications.Develop understanding of property boundaries, survey principles, and techniques.Apply basic trigonometry and understand measurement errors and data collection methods.Locate survey monuments using hand tools.Clear line of sight by removing brush and undergrowth.Use rods to obtain elevations and distances.Set stakes to establish grades on construction sites.Provide excellent customer service and communicate effectively with clients and the public.Follow safe work practices with tools and equipment.Perform additional duties as assigned.QualificationsMinimum 2 years of relevant experience.Experience with electronic transmission/distribution is a plus.Ability to work long hours and lift heavy loads (+50 lbs).Strong interpersonal and communication skills.Reliable attendance and punctuality.Preference for enrollment in survey-related coursework.Ability to work in various weather conditions.Valid driver's license and clean driving record; MVR check required.Willingness to travel and stay out of town as needed.Proficiency in English for communication and comprehension.This position requires a pre-employment drug screen and participation in ongoing drug and alcohol testing.Compensation: $24.00-$29.00 per hour, based on qualifications.What We OfferAt Colliers Engineering & Design, we prioritize our employees' well-being and growth.
